What is a Mapchick Gem?
Special restaurants, attractions, businesses we truly think you should try. We push the gems to the top of each category and they are labeled in the right hand corner of the listing. A few of our gems are located in the colonias and may take some travelers out of their comfort zone, but don’t worry, the island is very safe and we wouldn’t send you somewhere unsafe. In fact, these places will likely become your favorites! Sometimes a gem is because it has great food or ambiance or because a local family puts all their love into their business. Sometimes it’s because it’s unique, maybe even a little quirky and we love that!
Mapchick Favorites
These are not quite what we call gems, but we still love & recommend. To find favorites type Mapchick favorite in the search bar under the Restaurant tab for a list of many places we like!
Your Favorites
We’ve added a way for you to mark your own favorites and keep them in your own special space, look for the outlined star in the upper right hand corner of any business listing and tap, the star will fill in blue and be added to your Favorite’s list.
Tip 1: We recommend adding where you are staying to your favorites list in case you forget where you are staying and how to get there.
Tip 2: Add Emergency services such as doctors names which will give you their name, location and contact information. You’ll have it right at your fingertips in case you need a doctor.

Featured items
These are listings that we put at the top of a category, for example, during the early months of fall several restaurants and businesses will close for vacation, it’s a good time for employees to get a break before high season and also a good time to remodel and make repairs. At the top of Restaurants category you find a listing called “Restaurant vacation closings” where I try to keep an updated list of closings every year. Dates often change every year, I add them as soon as I know about them. Another example, at the top of the Transportation tab is Taxi: Main Station, here you will find current taxi rates for around the island. Other tabs, there could be a Featured business who is offering a special discount.
